My name is Mark Dakiv, and I've been a disc golfer for a long time, PDGA# 12505, and I remember when I started golfing I tried to learn as much as I could as fast as I could.
I'd read whatever I could get my hands on, and listen to whoever was talking about disc golf, in hopes of making me a better player. I'd play whenever I could, and go to as many tournaments as possible.
I remember my first really big event, it was the 2000 PDGA Worlds in Ann Arbor Michigan, and there were so many amazing golfers to get advice from, I was like a kid in a candy store!
The 9X World Champion Ken "The Champ" Climo was there (back then he was 9X, presently he's 15X) so of course I went up to him and asked for some advice, and I'll never forget how he smiled, cocked his head sideways a bit, and uttered these words of wisdom...
"Hate bogeys more than you love birdies."
and...
"You can't win a tournament in the first round,
but you can sure lose it."
After that I focused on those two gems whenever I played, and they really helped my game and lowered my score, and still do to this day, thanks again Champ!
So what I'd like to do now is compile as much disc golf wisdom as I can, from both seasoned pros and beginners alike, so that I can share this wisdom with others, because we all have a role to play... sometimes as a student, and sometimes as a teacher.
It won't cost you any money to receive daily emails of disc golf wisdom because this is a free service, but it would be greatly appreciated if you provide some of your own wisdom, growing the archive. Here's how it's going to work...
When you subscribe below you'll get added to my private mailing list, and your wisdom (if you do provide some) will get added to the "wisdom database". As I'm compiling these wisdoms, I'm going to send them out to everyone on my mailing list, a different gem of wisdom everyday.
Who knows, maybe the little crumb of information that you need to take your game to the next level will show up in your inbox just when you need it most... maybe just before your first tournament, or your first road trip, or before a pivotal tournament in your career, or to get you out of your putting slump.
Your wisdom could even be a famous quote, like Stancil Johnson's poetic words
“When a ball dreams, it dreams it's a frisbee"
but for good karma make sure you credit its original source or author.
Do you remember how amazing you felt when someone asked you for some advice, and you shared some of your knowledge and insights which really helped their game, and they were so grateful to you? Imagine how many people will be grateful to you when they read your wisdom.
